How to Use PhotoScore Ultimate 7 with Microsoft Sibelius




PhotoScore Ultimate 7 is a powerful software that can scan and recognize printed and handwritten music scores. It can also edit, transpose, play back, and print the scanned scores. PhotoScore Ultimate 7 works seamlessly with Microsoft Sibelius, a popular music notation software. In this article, we will show you how to use PhotoScore Ultimate 7 with Microsoft Sibelius.

Step 1: Scan or Import Your Music Score




You can scan your music score using a scanner or a camera, or import it from a PDF file or an image file. PhotoScore Ultimate 7 supports various formats, such as TIFF, BMP, PNG, JPG, and GIF. To scan or import your score, follow these steps:


  • Launch PhotoScore Ultimate 7 and click on File > New.



  • Select the source of your score from the options: Scanner/Camera, PDF File, Image File, or NotateMe File.



  • If you choose Scanner/Camera, follow the instructions on the screen to scan your score using your device. Make sure to adjust the settings for optimal results.



  • If you choose PDF File or Image File, browse to the location of your file and select it. You can also drag and drop your file into the PhotoScore window.



  • If you choose NotateMe File, select a file that you have created using NotateMe, a handwriting recognition app that is integrated with PhotoScore Ultimate 7.



  • Click on OK to start the recognition process.



Step 2: Edit and Correct Your Music Score




After the recognition process is done, you will see your music score in the PhotoScore window. You can edit and correct any errors or mistakes that may have occurred during the recognition. PhotoScore Ultimate 7 has a licensed Sibelius-style editing interface that is easy to use. To edit and correct your score, follow these steps:


  • Use the toolbar at the top of the window to access various editing tools, such as Select, Erase, Note, Rest, Clef, Key Signature, Time Signature, etc.



  • Use the mouse or the keyboard to select, move, delete, insert, or modify any element of your score.



  • Use the menu bar at the top of the window to access more options, such as Edit, View, Layout, Note Values, Pitch Spelling, etc.



  • You can also use NotateMe to handwrite any changes or additions to your score. To do this, click on Edit > Edit in NotateMe Now.... This will open NotateMe in a separate window where you can use your mouse, trackpad, pen, or finger to write on your score. When you are done, click on File > Save & Return to PhotoScore....



  • You can also play back your score using PhotoScore's built-in MIDI player. To do this, click on Play/Stop Playback button on the toolbar or press F5 on your keyboard.



  • You can also transpose your score to a different key or clef. To do this, click on Edit > Select All, then click on Edit >Transpose.... This will open a dialog box where you can choose the transposition options.
